Nice to have a comprehensive list in one place.

Here are some additional 3D editors you might want to include:
http://www.misfitcod...del3d/main.html - Misfit Model, no longer being actively developed, but it is free and open source, can handle Cal3D format among others.
http://chumbalum.swi...e.ch/index.html - Milkshape, low cost, import/export many formats, including Moviestorm compatible Cal3D.
http://www.fragmosoft.com/fragMOTION/ - Fragmotion, low cost, import/export many formats.

Joseph and I did a screenwriting course, taught by Aroundworld on the Moviestorm forum.
Unfortunately the modules are all separate but you can find them here;
I know there's a lot of stuff out there on the net, but it might be useful for some to see two machinimators learning hollywood style story contruction.
AW really knows his stuff & also has dyslexia, so don't get put off by typos in the headings.
PC still running after clearest yeah! Now noodling with Plotagon.

This site seems to have some possibly useful tools for developing scripts etc. I haven't tried any of them yet though.

here are a couple I use either for referance or if i am in a hurry and dont want to make something

http://3dr.adlnet.gov/Default.aspx US government site for models its great if your interested in authentic stuff from nasa either to use as a guide or try to get into your software

http://archive3d.net/ another 3d repository my favourite one it has also a site for textures

tutorial sites-
blender part of it http://cgcookie.com/blender/

blender render farm run off of the boinc platform http://www.renderfarm.fi/
(this is more of a giant experiment still at this point but if your curious you can sign up to boinc and help render stuff for others while you sleep its kinda fun although most of the time i am busy helping look for aliens on boinc seti proejct :)

erm just noticed that software list and a few things that are not there

Garry's Mod http://www.garrysmod.com/blog/
I haven't tried this one yet but I became interested in it after watching the videos on a rather talented user's channel here is one to take a peak of his

Source FilmMaker http://www.sourcefilmmaker.com/
I tried this one its got a lot of cool features however I actually think of the two packages garry's mod is probably a better choice but this one has more "stuff" video creation wise (although I haven't tried garry's mod if felt more versatile after watching a couple of tutorials on how to use it)

Edit - Added
  • The Library of Congress
  • Archive.ORG Audio and Video Archives

Do you mean Open Sim?

There are lots of virtual worlds out there suitable for machinima. I spent some time in Inworldz last year.

oh yes i forgot about opensim i stopped using it I wanted to add this software I worked with the dev for awhile and was more heavily involved I still moderate his forums (albeit not well and have been delinquint in my duties lately hehe) anyhow for the non technically minded this works well for machinima especially http://newworldstudio.net/

the personal license is like 20 bucks some people are upset with him but hey its a good bit of geekery he has been supporting sporadically for years. He recently decided to turn it for commercial use as people were being meanyheads so he wanted to get paid for his hours upon hours of thankless work at least. Just remember and fair caution opensim is in fact classified as alpha software he is attempting to piggyback his studio onto it. Logically there will be issues but for a few bucks its worth not fighting with the bare bones package in my opinion which is why I still donate time to his stuff.

erm also here is a repository of opensim assets aor files and individual objects etc etc http://opensim-creat...g/linda-kellie/ & http://opensim-creations.com

I know one you could probably add to the list. There was one movie making tool I used to play around with alot as a kid, it was 3D Movie Maker by Microsoft. You can look some footage of it up, though it is severely dated by today's tools and it's community at 3dmm.com aren't as big as they once were. Although I was never a member there, I did follow the community's work alot. I even wrote a story of my experiences with the tool.

Windows "Steps Recorder" may not be directly related to movie-making but it is very useful for sending bug reports to software support. When switched on, it takes a screen shot every time you click a button and annotates it where possible, then saves it as a complete web page or ZIP which you can send to e.g. Muvizu, to show them what you were doing before something broke ;)
