Why are the talking and crying scenes so cheesy and goofy looking? The way they move their hands make it hard to be taken seriously and the movie I'm making is a very serious one. Do you know if anyone has ever made new talking scenes or crying animations for the movies? If not I'll just manage.

The answer is simply no.

You can edit existing animations to make a new one, but making new ones from scratch can not be done. There's a long story of betrayal and broken promises behind this one.

Well mainly Lionhead promised to release to us the script(?) for character models and never did so...They closed up shop on us and called it a day.
Thats why we're HERE today.
Nutshell.

Oh you beat me to it, but there was more than that apparently... new animations and lighting features and a lot of goodies could have happened, but alas. It's how it is.

The only remnants of scripts are on a hard drive somewhere with the half-done code that would have been, probably, the Movie Editor v3.0. a project that went down with the DCMF web site....sigh.....it was just too much for one or two people that had been hacking at it for so long.
