Yesterday I made a fruit cake in the slow cooker (crock pot). Lined out the pot with a paper liner to avoid stickage. Put a cloth under the lid to stop drips. It tasted quite good, much to everyone's surprise, including me.
I've been experimenting with fuel saving methods of baking, and have been using the cake setting on my bread maker also, but the fixed high temperature didn't suit this recipe and I found some useful tutorials for the slow cook method.
I'm wondering now about Christmas cake, which takes 4 hours in a conventional oven.
I think this worked because it was a 'boiled' fruit cake with
Some of the ingredients pre-heated in a pan.
Is anyone else baking?Attached File  14391465457391.jpg   223.6KB   1 downloads As you can see it doesn't look like much.

Interesting concept, I'm not much of a baker, but I like the thought of saving gas and energy for sure.

Thanks Johnny, I'll try a different angle for a thread.
