Is me or is Vr (Virtual Reality) aiming at the wrong audience.

Octus rift ($599) and HTC VIve ($799) not counting the mobile VR. (Samusum VR)

It seems to me the companies are trying to sell these VR headsets to an average job who would not spend more than $300.

It seems like  companies  needs to rethink there audience in my opinion but a company got make money,

What are your thoughts do you think VR companies are aiming at the wrong audience?

I think I can remember the kickstarter campaign for Occulus Rift, and I'd thought the set was aimed at Joe Public also. Certainly that price is beyond most.
PC still running after clearest yeah! Now noodling with Plotagon.

Occulus is expensive but the google cardboard is super cheap and a good entry point into VR with some pretty solid apps for it as well.  It doesnt have the bells and whistles but it gives a good idea of the experience.
