Overheard about this one on Facebook. You might consider submit.

The entry fee is free, and it's not restricted to New Jersey residents.

I contacted them about machinima specifically and they said it's fine as long as we have full rights to all the content and releases from all actors. I had to edit one of my films to meet these requirements as I can't seem to find out how to get permission to use La Vie En Rose (which apparently is not in the public domain, even though it was written in in 1946).

So, as long as you are not using game engines with IP restrictions and have no music you don't have rights to use, you should be able to submit to this festival. It requires NTSC formatted DVD submissions via snail mail though, FYI. Oh,and each film needs it's own DVD and submission form. I also asked if they have any preferences for DVD-/+R/RW and they said they have none.

I personally do not have an explicit release from any actors but I have good relationships with all of the actors in my films so I don't think this is an issue. I have emails that probably could serve as a release agreement if anybody asks, I guess. If anybody happens to know what constitutes releases for actors and could post here, that might be helpful. I have not a clue.

I plan to submit both "A Dog's Life" (re-edited to have all original music) and "The Accident".

Great, RGR. Thanks for the info!

I was simply going to consider ourselves in possession of actors' consent/release, but just sent out the following text to our cast members, asking them to simply copy and paste the text and put a name at the end. (It's a grossly simplified version of an actor release form I found on the internet.)

---

Actor Release Form

I (the undersigned) hereby grant to Sheriwn Liu and Kate Lee the right to use my voice recordings for the machinima piece, The Gift. I permit my voice to be played in public for the screening of the work.
